Goodbye, summer!

We’ve had a cold snap here in North Carolina this weekend and fall is surely upon us. So let’s do a brief end-of-summer pictorial goodbye…

Goodbye, the best BLT I have ever made. Well, not exactly a BLT — Bacon, Spinach and Tomato. One of those examples of good ingredients = good food. My favorite bacon, from my CSA, Brinkley Farms — it cooks beautifully, with even the fat rendering into some sort of super-meat. Hard to describe, easy to eat. Slice up an hierloom tomato (also from Brinkley), add a generous handful of baby spinach, and sandwich it between toasted parmasean bread, with one piece schmeared with good mayo and the other (gasp) dipped in some of the bacon grease.

Goodbye to slow brunches with our nearest and dearests…

Summer picnics with Capri Suns and adorable children…

Tarts made with fruits from backyard trees, followed by sunset at the ocean:

Those beautiful summer CSA boxes,

Block parties, for nighttime beers on the street

And alfresco grilling on the back deck.

Summer, it’s been lovely! Thank you 🙂
