Pim’s Shrimp Stir Fry with Green Garlic

We’re back in the swing of things with the Farmers’ Market and beautiful green garlic is in season for just a few weeks. Here’s an absolutely delightful recipe that I’ve had bookmarked for two years and finally got a chance to try – and I’m happy to report that Chez Pim’s Shrimp Stir Fry with Green Garlic was worth the wait.

KidzNotes Benefit Fish Fry

Quick note for any of those in the RDU area — an organization I work with, KidZNotes, is having a fundraiser at Durham Central Park on Friday, October 5th, from 5-11pm!

Lots of good North Carolina fun here: NC beers, NC fish, and NC music (including some of the kids I teach!).

Food and beer coming from NC Catch, Toast, Bull City Brewery, Triangle Brewery, Steel String Brewery (not yet officially open but soon to be Carrboro’s own!), and Natty Greene’s Brewing Company.

Lemon and Thyme Fish en Papillote (Fish in Parchment)

A very happy Valentine’s day to all of you 🙂

When I was a very little girl I loved cutting things out of paper. The fact that one could fold a sheet in half, trim around, and then unfold a heart was amazing to me. I spent hours cutting out little hearts from tiny scraps of paper…

Lin’s Easy Curry Laksa

One of my absolute most favorite dishes to eat when I’m back in Malaysia is Mee Laksa (laksa noodles). There are two types of laksa — one is curry laksa and is coconut curry based, while the other called asam laksa and is a sour-ish fish soup. Both have noodles, and are served in those great, giant noodle soup bowls with a big spoon and a pair of chopsticks. My favorite is curry laksa (although you can eat it at any meal, it is one of my favorite breakfasts!).

  2. Seeing new sights
  3. Delicious food

Add them all together and you have me in bliss 🙂

Grilled Salmon in a Curry Coconut Sauce

One of the reasons I decided to do this blog is because now more than ever I have the time to expand my cooking horizons and make things that I never would have thought to make a year back. Now is the time to be adventurous and I think I am already starting to improve!

So when I got a salmon fillet at the market last Sunday, I tried it out with a curry coconut sauce  on a bed of sautéed spinach…

Brazil: Sushi Rodizio in Sao Paolo

Sao Paolo is home to the largest Asian population in Brazil, as well as the largest Japanese community outside of Japan itself. In my neighborhood of Moema, you will find sushi restaurants on almost every street corner offering “rodizio” (all you can eat) sushi. After months of almost weekly sushi rodizios, James and I settled on the Kanji Lounge as the best in our immediate vicinity.

So to finish off our reunion, Lin, Baker, Niner, Helio, James and I feasted on sushi till our bellies could take no more. Enjoy the pictures from our meal!

Grilled Tilapia in a Cream Sauce

Since we are one the cream sauce trend…here is a meal Lin and I prepared when she was visiting. If I recall correctly, we were trying to have a light meal to recuperate from our weekend of meat-eating and decadence at the farm.
